Acupressure Stimulation at points SI1 and ST36 on Breast Milk Production in Postpartum Mothers
Abstract
The loss of the primary benefits of breast milk may increase the risk of infections and diseases in infants, including respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, and other health problems. In addition, infants who do not receive adequate breast milk may have a higher risk of experiencing growth and developmental problems and may be more vulnerable due to their immune systems, which are not yet fully developed. Acupressure, as a form of complementary therapy that involves applying gentle pressure to specific points on the body, may help increase breast milk production in postpartum mothers. The SI 1 and ST 36 acupressure points were selected because they are believed to stimulate the mammary glands and improve the flow of energy throughout the body.
This study employed a quantitative research design using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of 30 postpartum mothers who gave birth in January 2024 at Pamanukan Medical Center Hospital, Subang. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The results showed that acupressure therapy stimulation at the SI 1 and ST 36 points had a significant effect on breast milk production among postpartum mothers, with a p-value of 0.000.
